Boston WordPress Meetup Oct 2009: The Atahualpa Theme (Intermediate)

The Atahualpa theme by Bytes for All is, far and away, the best free customizable theme available for WordPress, and it can easily hold its own next to premium themes like Thesis. It's incredible interface gives power users everything they need to implement any design they can think of, while providing enough structure that even a total novice can become a Web designer.

Atahualpa is the perfect choice for:

  • Beginners: The custom design interface can actually help you learn CSS in a controlled environment
  • Pros: Direct, easy access to code gives you all the power you could ever ask for
  • People on a budget: It's free! and it's at least as good as any premium theme out there

Adam Wood, founder of Social Bootstrap, will demonstrate the Atahualpa theme, highlight some of it's cooler functions, show off a few Atahualpa-based site designs, and answer your questions about this amazing WP theme.

This presentation will be geared toward the intermediate WP user, but beginners and pros will not feel left out unless they have an inferiority complex or something.

    Any suggestions for parking nearby?

Sometimes you can find on-street parking for free in front of the building, and I've heard people haven't had too much trouble finding on-street parking nearby (metered until 8 I assume?). And there's always the building garage for $10.

Is anyone familiar with the Thematic Theme Framework by Ian Stewart? http://themeshaper.com/thematic/

I have taken a look at thematic, and read about it, but would love someone to do a talk about it.

I would love someone to speak on Thematic as well. I think it's exactly what I need, but haven't had time personally to really figure it out. It would be great for someone to demonstrate how it works by creating Child Themes.

I was unable to make the meetup. Can anyone share some links to sites that use Atahualpa? I did my first site with it: http://www.raisinghopeinc.org/
but I am very interested to see what other people are doing with it.

I am still working on the video... it isn't easy to compress a 1.5hr video to something small and manageable. I will update once I am done. Thanks!

http://blip.tv/file/2847309 is the video... sorry it isn't the best quality but it was hard to fit the video under 1GB. Previous meetups are also on my channel.

Thanks for recording, editing and uploading, Kurt! It's great to have these presentations available on video for new members to get a glimpse of what we're up to.
